BUYING
What a quotation needs in order to be a quotation.
Most balance-of-system enquiries stall because the buyer has a component and no site. This is the list worth completing before the first message.
- The site
- Location, because wind and atmosphere come from it
- The ambient
- The summer peak, because that is what the thermal case uses
- The cable
- Type and fill, because a full tray weighs far more than an empty one
- The separation
- Because DC and AC runs have to be kept apart
- The atmosphere
- Distance from the coast decides the fixing grade
- The standard
- Which code the calculation must satisfy, and who signs it
- The maintenance
- Who changes the filters, and how often
- The quantity and the split
- Because parts are cut and drilled to the run
Why the ambient comes before the enclosure.
Because the thermal case is built from it. The same enclosure is adequate in a garage and inadequate on a south-facing wall, and the difference is a temperature rather than a product.
The most useful sentence in an enquiry.
"The run is twenty metres on a roof one kilometre from the coast, carrying DC beside AC." It tells the supplier the separation, the coating and the fixing grade, and it is the sentence most enquiries leave out.
Why written beats verbal.
The expensive conversations in a project are the ones about what was agreed. A brief that exists only in a meeting leaves every disputed detail open.
