PRODUCT / FICTIONAL EXAMPLE
Battery enclosure
An IP-rated enclosure for a rack of cells, with vented sides and a removable lid. Heat is the specification, because a cell that runs hot loses capacity first.

How it is made.
The shell is folded and welded, the lid is gasketed and the vents are formed. The vent pattern is what decides whether the enclosure sheds heat or traps it, and it is the feature most often reduced to save cost.

Why heat governs the enclosure.
Because capacity loss is a temperature effect. A cell held ten degrees warmer ages faster, and the enclosure that traps heat costs the owner capacity long before it costs anything to the installer.
Why the vent is filtered.
Because an unfiltered vent admits dust onto live terminals. The filter is a consumable the installer has to be told about, and an enclosure whose filter is never changed is an enclosure with no filter.
