Instrument 02 / 8-inch study
Folio 8Room for the margin
Folio gives a reading page more breathing room and leaves a broad physical ledge beside it. The silver body and blue inset distinguish it from the smaller instrument.
Fictional instruments. All sizes and features are illustrative concept values, awaiting sample verification.

Design intention
A grip that creates a margin.
The side ledge is a design hypothesis about grip, not an ergonomic result. A wider page could make charts and annotations easier to arrange, while a single side control keeps the front face quiet. Handedness and reach remain deliberate sample questions.
The tradeoff
A broad grip adds width even before screen size changes. Folio belongs in a bag rather than a pocket, and its document workflow needs to be tested using the actual page layouts a reader plans to bring.

Sample evaluation
Try the whole sequence.
Prepare a reference chapter, a two-column PDF and a page with internal links. Move repeatedly between source text and notes; check whether each mark retains a stable link to the source.
Three questions still open
- 01
Can the side grip be configured for left-handed use?
- 02
How is an original document linked to exported highlights?
- 03
What happens to a two-column PDF when text size changes?
Charging, runtime, durability, file compatibility and market documentation are also unverified. The rendered device is an original illustration of intent; it is not sample evidence.
From comparison to questions
Keep the limitations in the brief.
This instrument’s open questions travel with the comparison. The exported record remains local and NOT SENT.
