PRODUCT / FICTIONAL EXAMPLE
Void-fill dispenser
A bench dispenser holding a roll of paper void fill. It is bought to speed up packing, so the specification is the time per parcel rather than the material.

How it is made.
The body is folded and assembled without fixings, the roll is loaded on a spindle and the paper tears against an edge. The tear edge is what decides whether the operator reaches for it or for something else.

Every value above is an illustrative example for a fictional range. It is not a quotation, a capability statement or a measurement of any real product.
Why the tear edge is the design.
Because it is used hundreds of times a day. A dispenser that tears unevenly or jams is abandoned within a week, and the material saving it was bought for never arrives.
What the footprint costs.
Bench space at the packing station. A dispenser that is too large is moved to the floor, and a dispenser on the floor is not used.
