PRODUCT / FICTIONAL EXAMPLE
Mailing bag
A padded mailing bag with a peel-and-seal flap. It is the cheapest pack in the range and the one most often used for the wrong thing.

How it is made.
The outer is extruded and the bubble layer is laminated in, then the flap is folded and the adhesive strip applied. The seal is the specification, because a bag that opens in transit has protected nothing.

Why the seal decides the bag.
Because a bag is a single sealed volume. If the strip lifts at one corner the contents are loose in the network, and the protection the padding offered is gone from that point onwards.
When it is the wrong pack.
When the contents have a sharp edge. Padding resists impact and does nothing against a corner, and a bag used for a sharp object fails at the corner rather than at the seal.
