FOOTWEAR / FICTIONAL RANGE

A size designation is not a measurement.

LASTWAY is a fictional footwear-component range covering shoe lasts, sole stacks and upper panels. The site is organised around the fit rather than the catalogue: three parts can share a size designation and fit nothing alike, and every one of them is decided before the order.

A shoe last, a separated midsole and outsole stack, a cut upper panel and a heel counter on a benchtop.
Original 3D render · fictional appearance concept

Three parts, three ways a shoe goes wrong.

Each part fails somewhere a size designation does not describe, and each failure is decided before the order.

What a size designation cannot decide.

Four things that belong to the last rather than to the number on the box.

The fit
Because length and girth can match and the instep still differ
The drop
Because the difference between heel and forefoot decides the loading
The pairing
Because a panel pair that closes asymmetically tilts the shoe on the last
The bond
Because a stacked sole that has delaminated looks sound until it is loaded
