LASTWAYFootwear lasts & components / demo

DEMO — fictional range. Local brief only, NOT SENT. No personal data is collected or transmitted.

MATERIAL

Six materials, and what each one is chosen for.

Footwear materials are chosen for abrasion, flex and moisture, in that order. A material chosen for appearance alone is a material chosen for a photograph.

Six material samples: full-grain leather, suede, EVA foam, siped rubber, brass eyelets and cotton twine.
Original 3D render · fictional appearance concept

Illustrative material record

Full-grain leather
Uppers · breaks in over weeks and holds a shape
Suede
Panels and counters · soft, hides wear, and marks in sunlight
EVA foam
Midsoles · light and springy, and it compresses permanently
Siped rubber
Outsoles · abrasion resistance, and the sipping is what grips
Brass eyelets
Load-bearing points · resilient where plastic deforms under lacing
Cotton twine
Seams and labels · pliable, and it is the seam that fails where it rubs

Illustrative examples for a fictional range. Material selection depends on the activity, the climate and the size run, and is confirmed against a specification rather than a web page.

Why a material is chosen by what it survives.

Because abrasion, flex and moisture are what a shoe meets. A material chosen for how it photographs is chosen for a photograph, and the failure shows on the foot rather than on the page.

Why the eyelet grade is stated.

Because lacing is a repeated load at six points. A soft insert deforms under it and the lace then cuts the leather, which is why the eyelet is specified rather than left to the supplier.
