BUYING

What a quotation needs in order to be a quotation.

Most lighting enquiries stall because the buyer has a look and no scheme. This is the list worth completing before the first message.

What is being lit
Surfaces, tasks or a room, because each needs a different beam
The colour
Temperature and rendering, because they decide how the room reads
The beam
And therefore the fitting count, which is the same decision
What is seen
Because the fittings in view decide the glare
The dimming
Range and protocol, and the level the scheme will sit at in the evening
The ceiling or wall
Because the mounting and the drop are decided by what it is fixed to
The quantity
And the split across finishes, because a scheme is usually mixed
The inspection
Including a colour consistency check across the order
Why the beam and the quantity are one question.

Because a narrow beam needs more fittings to cover the same surface. Asking for a beam angle without asking for the fitting count is asking for half of a layout.

The most useful sentence in an enquiry.

"Twenty fittings in one room, seen together, dimmed every evening." It tells the supplier which two properties matter, and it is the sentence most enquiries leave out.

Why written beats verbal.

The expensive conversations in a project are the ones about what was agreed. A brief that exists only in a meeting leaves every disputed detail open.
