PRODUCT / FICTIONAL EXAMPLE

Track spotlight

A spotlight on a track section, with a yoke that aims it. The aiming range is the specification, because a spotlight that cannot be aimed is a pendant.

How it is made.

The body is cast and the yoke is fitted, then the lens is set in front of the source. The yoke decides how far the fitting can be aimed, and that range is what a scheme is actually designed with.

Why the aiming range decides the layout.

Because a scheme is designed by aiming fittings at surfaces. A spotlight that reaches ninety degrees can be aimed at a wall or a table; one that reaches thirty can only do what its installation angle allows.

What the beam angle costs.

The number of fittings. A narrow beam needs more fittings for the same coverage, so the beam angle and the fitting count are the same decision seen twice.
