Hanger

A wooden hanger with a metal hook and a trouser bar. It is the point at which the garment is presented, and it is bought separately from the garment.

How it is made.

Cut and sanded from hardwood, then the hook is fitted and the bar is set. The shoulder angle is the specification, because it decides whether the garment holds its shape on the rail.

What a photograph cannot show.

How it behaves after five washes. A garment is bought on appearance and returned on shrinkage, colour loss or a seam that has gone, and none of those are visible on the day it is photographed.

What it cannot show either.

Whether the size is the size. A garment labelled the same as another can differ by centimetres between factories, and that is a grading decision rather than a sewing fault.
