REVISION
A revision to a frame reaches the lens.
A frame revision changes where the lens sits, and the lens is cut to the frame. A change that looks cosmetic moves the optical centre.
- Revision letter
- Every change, however small, gets one
- What changed
- The feature, the value and the reason
- Lens impact
- Whether existing lens stock or a prescription has to be re-cut
- When it took effect
- Which batch was the first made to the new revision
- What it supersedes
- Which revision the new one replaces
- Interchangeability
- Whether the new frame takes the old lens
| Rev | Change | Reason | Lens impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Lens width increased 48 to 50 mm | Returns for a narrow fit | New lens size |
| B | Bridge lowered 1 mm | Frame sat too high on the nose | Centration changes |
| C | Temple length raised to 145 mm | Pinching behind the ear | None |
Why the lens impact column belongs on the log.
Because a frame revision can leave a stock of lenses that no longer fit, and a prescription already cut cannot be reused. It is a cost that is invisible on the frame drawing.
The habit worth copying.
Recording which batch was the first made to the new revision. Without it, a frame sits between two revisions and nobody can say which lens it takes.
