Hard case

A clamshell case with a lined interior and a hinge that holds. It is judged by whether the frame survives being carried, not by how it looks on a shelf.

How it is made.

Moulded in two halves and hinged, then lined. The lining is what protects the lens coating, and the hinge is what decides whether the case stays shut in a bag.

What a photograph cannot show.

Whether it fits. A frame is chosen against a face measurement, and the same frame looks identical on a face it suits and on one it does not.

What it cannot show either.

Whether the material takes an adjustment. Acetate can be heated and bent to a face and will hold; the same adjustment on a metal front is a permanent deformation.
