DEMO — fictional range. Local brief only, NOT SENT. No personal data is collected or transmitted.

RANGE

Three objects, and what each one has to survive.

The range covers tapered planters, trough planters and stacking crates. Each object page carries the decision that keeps it outdoors for years and the questions worth settling before an order is placed.

Object

Tapered planter

A thrown-profile pot with a rolled rim and a single drainage hole. It lives outside all year, so what decides it is frost and standing water rather than its shape.

Object

Trough planter

A rectangular trough on feet, for hedging and herbs. The feet are the whole design: without them the base sits in water and the wall fails first.

Object

Storage crate

A stacking crate with handle cut-outs, for tools and pots. Stacking is the specification: the lip has to carry a loaded crate above it.

How the range is organised.

By what the weather does to it rather than by what it holds. A planter is decided by drainage, a trough by its feet, a crate by its coating.

Fired clay
Decided by frost and by whether the wall can dry out
Cast stone
Decided by weight and by sealing, because it holds water
Coated steel
Decided by the coating, because the steel underneath will not survive
Timber
Decided by the species and by whether it stands in water
