PRODUCT / FICTIONAL EXAMPLE
Tee body
Front and back panels with the shoulder seam set in. The body is the pattern, and the pattern is what the fit is measured against.

How it is made.
Two panels cut on the fold with a set-in shoulder and a ribbed neckband. The body is graded across a size run, and the grading steps are what make one size a size and not a label.

Every value above is an illustrative example for a fictional range. It is not a quotation, a capability statement or a measurement of any real product.
Why the body is graded rather than scaled.
Because scaling a pattern does not scale a fit. The chest, the shoulder and the sleeve all grade on different steps, and a single scale factor makes the ends of a run unwearable.
What a photograph cannot show.
The balance. Two bodies of identical chest measurement can hang differently, and the difference is a garment that hangs straight and one that twists on the wearer.
