LINING NOTES / 02
The inside
belongs in the brief.

01 / DEVELOPMENT NOTE
Name the contact surfaces
Identify the strap underside, heel lining, vamp lining and sock-facing surface separately when those parts are present. A single colour label is not a complete bill of materials.
- Ask where seams, folded edges or exposed layers will sit.
- Keep the intended use and socks in the physical-review brief.
- Do not infer comfort from material descriptions.
02 / DEVELOPMENT NOTE
Pair the references
Record the lining supplier reference beside the chosen upper. Ask for composition, thickness and backing details appropriate to that material. Changes to a lining may need a new assembled sample review.
- Keep lining and upper revisions visible.
- Record what changed between confirmation samples.
- Ask the supplier to identify any assembly constraints.
03 / DEVELOPMENT NOTE
Keep observations separate from claims
Write what was observed, by whom and on which sample. A small prototype review does not establish a general product performance claim.
- Record the physical sample ID and review conditions.
- Identify the destination and evidence owner.
- Use an agreed test plan where claims or requirements need evidence.
