GUIDE

The order the questions are worth asking in.

This is the sequence a sport-eyewear programme follows when it goes well, and the point at which each step becomes expensive to revisit.

1 · The activity
Impact, spray, wind and speed, because each decides the frame
2 · The grip
Because a sport frame is held by pressure rather than by the ears
3 · The prescription
And the base curve it can be cut into
4 · The lens material
Impact against clarity, which trade against each other
5 · The standard
Which test, and for which use
6 · The coating
And how the lens will actually be cleaned
7 · The environment
Because sweat and chlorides decide the fixing grade
8 · The inspection
Balance and grip, not only the measurements
Why the order matters.

Each step constrains the next. Choosing a lens before the base curve is choosing a prescription for a frame that may not accept it, and choosing a coating before knowing how the lens is cleaned is choosing a life for a layer.

Where programmes usually go wrong.

Step three, discovered late, and step six, assumed. Both are cheap to settle and expensive to discover after a lens is cut.
