REVISION
A change to a contact changes the tool.
Connector revisions reach further than most, because the contact is crimped with a tool set to a dimension, and the tool is part of the specification.
- Revision letter
- Every change, however small, gets one
- What changed
- The feature, the value and the reason
- Tooling impact
- Whether the crimp tool or the mould has to be changed
- Interchangeability
- Whether the new revision mates with the old one
- When it took effect
- Which batch was the first made to the new revision
- What it supersedes
- Which revision the new one replaces
| Rev | Change | Reason | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Divider thickened 0.4 mm | Creepage short of the declared voltage | New mould |
| B | Gold thickness raised to 0.8 µm | Plating worn through at 200 cycles | None |
| C | Crimp barrel shortened | Conductor not fully enclosed | New tool setting |
Why interchangeability is a separate column.
Because a revision can keep the same shell and change the contact. Two revisions then mate mechanically and differ electrically, and a harness built from both is neither revision.
The habit worth copying.
Recording the tool setting with the revision. Without it, the drawing describes a crimp that nobody can reproduce.
