COMPONENT / FICTIONAL EXAMPLE
Terminal block
A four-way block with screw terminals and a wire entry per way. The pitch is the specification, because it sets the wire size the block will take.

How it is made.
Moulded to a pitch, then the entries and screw holes are formed in the tool. The divider between ways is what holds the creepage distance, and reducing it is how a block stops meeting its rating.

Every value above is an illustrative example for a fictional range. It is not a quotation, a rating or a measurement of any real component.
What a datasheet rating does not describe.
The joint it is part of. A connector rated at a current is rated in a defined test arrangement, and the same connector in a different housing with a different crimp can run hotter at half that current.
What it cannot show either.
Whether the crimp was made properly. The joint is inside the barrel, and a bad one looks exactly like a good one from outside until it heats up.
