COMPONENT / FICTIONAL EXAMPLE
Crimp contact
A crimped contact with a mating pin, a retention shoulder and a barrel. The crimp is the connection: everything else only holds it in place.

How it is made.
Stamped and formed, then plated. The barrel is crimped onto the conductor with a tool, and the quality of that one operation decides whether the joint heats up in service.
Illustrative specification

Every value above is an illustrative example for a fictional range. It is not a quotation, a rating or a measurement of any real component.
What a datasheet rating does not describe.
The joint it is part of. A connector rated at a current is rated in a defined test arrangement, and the same connector in a different housing with a different crimp can run hotter at half that current.
What it cannot show either.
Whether the crimp was made properly. The joint is inside the barrel, and a bad one looks exactly like a good one from outside until it heats up.
