DEMO — fictional range. Local brief only, NOT SENT. No personal data is collected or transmitted.

RANGE

Three packs, and where each one fails.

The range covers corrugated shipping cases, moulded insert trays and rigid presentation boxes. Each page carries the feature that decides the journey and the questions worth settling before tooling.

Pack

Shipping case

A corrugated case with the flaps hinged open. It is judged by what arrives inside it, so the specification is the board grade rather than the print.

Pack

Insert tray

A moulded pulp tray with three cavities, for holding parts apart. The cavities are the specification: they decide whether the contents touch in transit.

Pack

Rigid box

A two-piece rigid box with an overlapping lid. It is the pack the customer keeps, so the specification is the wrap and the board rather than the strength.

How the range is organised.

By where the pack is in the journey rather than by what it is made of. A shipping case takes the load, an insert tray stops the movement, a rigid box is what the customer keeps.

Transit packs
Decided by board grade and stacking, because they take the load
Insert packs
Decided by cavity geometry, because they stop the movement
Presentation packs
Decided by board and wrap, because they are handled after arrival
Combined packs
Decided by how the layers fit, because a loose layer is a loose product
