PACKAGING / FICTIONAL RANGE

A pack is judged by what arrives inside it.

CARTONNAGE is a fictional packaging range covering corrugated shipping cases, moulded insert trays and rigid presentation boxes. The site is organised around the journey rather than the object: a pack that looks right and fails in transit is a pack that failed, and the failure is decided at the drawing stage.

Three packaging objects on a pale surface: an open corrugated case with hinged flaps, a white moulded insert tray with three cavities, and a rigid white box with a blue lid.
Original 3D render · fictional appearance concept

Three packs, three ways a journey breaks them.

Each pack in this range fails at a different point in transit, and in each case the drawing decision that prevents it is easy to leave to the converter.

Pack

Shipping case

A corrugated case with the flaps hinged open. It is judged by what arrives inside it, so the specification is the board grade rather than the print.

Pack

Insert tray

A moulded pulp tray with three cavities, for holding parts apart. The cavities are the specification: they decide whether the contents touch in transit.

Rigid box

A two-piece rigid box with an overlapping lid. It is the pack the customer keeps, so the specification is the wrap and the board rather than the strength.

What a photograph of a pack leaves out.

Four things that decide whether it works, and that no picture of an empty pack will show.

Stacking load
What sits on top of it in a vehicle, for how long
Drop height
How far it falls, and onto what
Humidity
Whether the board is still stiff when it matters
Fill and void
Whether the contents can move inside before the box deforms
Why the contents matter more than the box.

Because a box protects by holding its contents still. A strong case with a loose product inside fails sooner than a weaker case with a product that cannot move.

What this site cannot tell you.

Whether your pack survives your route. That is established by sending one and inspecting what arrives, not by reading a page.
