NEST & NOMADPet goods / demo

DEMO — fictional range. Local brief only, NOT SENT. No personal data is collected or transmitted.

MATERIAL

Six materials, and what each one is chosen for.

Pet goods are chosen for abrasion, wash recovery and moisture, in that order. A material chosen for appearance alone is a material chosen for a photograph.

Six material samples: olive canvas, pale canvas, glazed ceramic, weighted clay, cotton webbing and rubber.

Illustrative material record

Canvas, 12 oz
Covers and rims · abrasion resistant, and it relaxes after washing
Canvas, pale
Inner cushions · shows dirt, which is the point of a removable one
Glazed ceramic
Bowl bodies · inert and washable, and it chips on a hard floor
Weighted clay
Bowl stands · mass, and it is the foot that grips rather than the mass
Cotton webbing
Handles and straps · pliable, and it is what a chewer finds first
Moulded rubber
Bowl feet · grips a wet floor, and it hardens in sunlight

Illustrative examples for a fictional range. Material selection depends on the animal, the wash regime and the environment, and is confirmed against a specification rather than a web page.

Why the wash regime is part of the material choice.

Because every material on this list changes when it is washed. Canvas relaxes, fill compresses, rubber hardens, and the regime is what makes any of those numbers mean something.

Why the cover is a different weight from the cushion.

Because one is touched and one is lain on. A cover chosen for softness opens at the thread under claws, and the failure is a cushion that loses its fill.
