REVISION
A revision to a last moves every panel.
Changing a last changes everything cut and lasted against it. A revision that looks local is a revision to the whole shoe.
- Revision letter
- Every change, however small, gets one
- What changed
- The feature, the value and the reason
- Panel impact
- Whether every pattern piece has to be re-cut
- Size impact
- Whether the whole run has to be regraded
- When it took effect
- Which batch was the first made to the new revision
- What it supersedes
- Which revision the new one replaces
| Rev | Change | Reason | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Toe spring reduced 2 mm | Shoe flexed ahead of the foot | Every panel re-cut |
| B | Waist girth reduced 6 mm | Upper gapped at the arch | Upper pattern only |
| C | Eyelets moved 1 mm | Lace cut the leather at the flap | Panel flaps only |
Why the panel impact column belongs here.
Because a last change is never local. A revision that leaves the drawing valid and the patterns invalid produces a shoe nobody can reproduce, and the error surfaces at the lasting bench rather than in review.
The habit worth copying.
Recording which last revision a size run was graded from. Without it, a run sits between two lasts and nobody can say which shape it was built to.
