REVISION
A pack revision is a tooling revision.
Cutting formes and moulding tools are made to a drawing, and changing the drawing means changing the tool. That is why a small revision on a pack is rarely small.
- Revision letter
- Every change, however small, gets one
- What changed
- The feature, the value and the reason
- Tooling impact
- Whether the cutting forme or the mould has to be remade
- When it took effect
- Which batch was the first made to the new revision
- What it supersedes
- Which revision the new one replaces
- Stock
- Whether old and new packs may be used together
| Rev | Change | Reason | Tooling |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Internal depth increased 20 mm | Contents fouled the lid | New forme |
| B | Board grade raised to double wall | Stacking failures in the container | None |
| C | Cavity wall thickened to 25 mm | Parts touched in transit | New mould |
Why the tooling column belongs on the log.
Because it explains the lead time. A revision that needs a new forme costs weeks and a revision that does not costs nothing, and a log that omits the difference makes the schedule look arbitrary.
The habit worth copying.
Recording which batch was the first made to the new revision. Without it, a batch sits between two revisions and nobody can say which drawing it was made to.
