DEMO — fictional range. Local brief only, NOT SENT. No personal data is collected or transmitted.

MATERIAL

Five materials, and why each one is chosen.

Material is chosen for what the part has to do, then for what can be machined and finished. The order matters: a material picked for machinability alone is a material picked for the supplier rather than the part.

Five material samples on a bench: clear anodised aluminium, satin aluminium, steel, brass and white POM.

Illustrative material record

6082-T6 aluminium
General machined parts · good strength, machines cleanly, anodises well
Satin anodised aluminium
Where the surface is handled or seen · hides marks better than bright anodising
304 stainless
Where corrosion matters more than weight · harder to machine, needs slower feeds
Brass
Bushings and fittings · machines very well, costs more per kilogram
POM
Low-friction parts · dimensionally stable, but expands more with heat than metal

Illustrative examples for a fictional range. Material selection depends on the load, the environment and the finish, and is confirmed against a specification rather than a web page.

Why the finish is recorded with the material.

Because the same alloy behaves differently with and without a coating, and the coating decides both the appearance and the dimensional change. An anodised bore is not the same bore.

What certification covers.

That the material delivered is the material specified, traceable to a heat or batch. It does not cover whether the specification was the right one for the part.
